Over the past two years, Ken has worked chiefly with new administrators, teachers and teacher leaders on building school community. His workshops focus on effective communication, educational leadership and management, problem solving, collegiality, and developing professional learning communities. Ken is currently involved in an online leadership project for administrators (for more information, contact him at kannandale@vsb.bc.ca). In keeping with his motto, “Good enough never is,” Ken is currently at work on a new book that looks at improving best practices.

What people say about me :

Ken’s thoughtful presentations are intended to assist educators examine aspects of what they do on a day-to-day basis that enhances or inhibits their beliefs. The goal is to develop a vision where all members of the school community can realize their individual and collective potential, while “enjoying the ride” together.

My experience :

Ken Annandale is a well-respected teacher and administrator and a leader of innovative programs. He spent 22 years as a classroom and head teacher, and an additional 14 years primarily as Vice-Principal and Principal in the Vancouver School District. Now, Ken serves as an educational consultant for developing programs for Teacher Leaders and Administrators.

Throughout his professional journey, Ken has consistently focused on creating caring learning communities within the public education system. The successful programs that he helped to design and implement have a broad foundation that includes inner city and enrichment; language and literacy; differentiated learning styles for a diversity of learners, and leadership programs for teachers and students. All have reflected Ken’s core beliefs about community, as he simply states below.

“A healthy and vibrant community must not only acknowledge, but embrace and respect, the values and experiences of all the individuals that it includes. Every school has an obligation to recognize that each member has a significant role to play in allowing the organization to grow. When people feel valued and appreciated, they fulfill their obligations, and the entire community is enriched and improved.”
